Celtic right-back Alistair Johnston has shut down speculation about a potential summer exit, insisting he remains fully committed to the club.

The 26-year-old defender, who has become a key figure at Parkhead since his 2022 move from CF Montreal, has been linked with a move to England and even Inter Milan. However, Johnston has made it clear he’s not looking to leave any time soon.

Speaking to The Guardian, he reaffirmed his love for the club and his determination to continue contributing to Celtic’s success.

“I’m in no rush to take a Scottish dog out of Scotland. That’d be its own challenge,” he joked.

“I don’t take for granted what an unbelievable opportunity this club has [given me].”

Johnston has made the right-back position his own, stepping in seamlessly following Josip Juranović’s departure. His first game for Celtic was a Glasgow Derby at Ibrox, and he has since played a crucial role in the team’s domestic dominance.

The Canadian international signed a long-term deal until 2029, further reinforcing the club’s faith in his abilities.

His tough tackling, relentless energy down the right, and leadership qualities have made him a fan favourite, and it’s no surprise he’s attracting interest from clubs in Europe’s top leagues.

While the transfer rumours will likely persist, Johnston’s words suggest that he sees his future at Celtic for the foreseeable future. With another league title in sight and the Champions League campaign ahead, he seems determined to keep pushing forward in the Hoops rather than seeking an immediate move elsewhere.

  2. Aye like O’Riley, Starfelt, Jota, Kyogo & Big Ange you mean? They all fairly put the SMSM in their place.

    And duly left the club…

Based on his recent performances vs you know who, I would say AJ won’t be getting a move elsewhere any time soon & needs to knuckle down and get a decent pair of non-slip fitba boots
