Celtic fans will be concerned after Alistair Johnston was substituted around the 25 minute mark during Canada’s match against the USA on Saturday evening. Johnston has been a key figure for Celtic since the start of the season, building on his standout performances for Canada in the summer, where he made the squad of the tournament during their Copa America run.

Johnston’s workload has been immense over the past year, and many expected him to take a break following his international exploits in the summer. However, the right-back jumped straight back into action for Celtic, featuring in their first game of the season and maintaining his form throughout.

The early substitution raised eyebrows, but reports from the game suggest it may not be serious. American journalist Larry Henry Jr., covering the match, offered some reassurance, stating, “Didn’t look too bad. Maybe more of a precaution than anything, but still he’s had a great season so far.”

With Johnston’s importance to Celtic, supporters will hope that this knock is nothing more than a minor issue and that he’ll be back in action soon.

Celtic have a full schedule that involves them fighting on three fronts. The Champions league games begin later in September and we hope to have as fit a squad as possible to deal with the demands.
