Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has provided some positive news on the injury front, particularly regarding defender Alistair Johnston.

After missing last weekend’s match against Falkirk due to a lingering hamstring issue, Johnston appears to be on the mend and back in training.

The injury concern arose after Johnston, already known to Celtic’s medical team as having a hamstring problem, aggravated the condition while on international duty. He had to be substituted early in one of the national team matches after pulling up with the injury.

He arrived back at Lennoxtown and continued to feature but was given the match against Falkirk off.

However, Rodgers has now confirmed that the break during the Falkirk game allowed some players, including Johnston, to recover from their respective ailments. “Yeah [AJ is back in training]. It’s great. The Falkirk game gave us the chance to recover one or two of the players who had little niggles. Ali has trained all week and been good,” Rodgers stated.

This update will be a significant relief for Celtic, especially ahead of their upcoming fixtures, including a challenging trip to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. Johnston’s return to fitness boosts Celtic’s defensive options at a crucial point in their season.

On the other hand, Cameron Carter-Vickers has been ruled out of this weekend’s action, with it not yet clear if he’ll make it for Tuesday’s trip to Germany.

Rodgers couldn’t say either way if the American will be fine to play on Tuesday, revealing that he’s been playing through the pain for a few matches now
