Celtic right-back Alistair Johnston sent out a brilliant message to the Hoops’ faithful on Instagram on St. Patrick’s Day.

The defender was denied a wonder goal in the champions’ 3-1 beating of St. Johnstone at the weekend, James Forrest being marginally offside in the build-up causing the officials and VAR to disallow it.

On Sunday, Johnston posted a picture of him taking the strike, wishing fans Happy St. Patrick’s Day and that he hopes they are luckier than he was in the game on Saturday:

Had the Canadian defender’s goal stood, it would have been one of the best of his career. Johnston is not known for scoring; he has just one to his name this season.

That doesn’t mean he doesn’t attack, though, because he is always eager to get up and down the right-hand side, covering vast ground.

For Celtic, the treble-winner has made more appearances – 53 in all competitions – than he has for any other club. Some supporters may criticise the consistency of his performances and although they have taken a slight dip at certain points this season, on the whole, Johnston is one of the more reliable members of the first-team squad.
