It’s been a whirlwind couple of days at Celtic Park and as the dust begins to settle on Brendan Rodgers’ shock resignation, details are starting to emerge about how the former boss is handling his sudden departure.
Speaking on TalkSPORT Breakfast, Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist both revealed they’ve exchanged text messages with Rodgers since he stepped down on Monday night and despite the chaos surrounding Celtic, it seems the ex-manager is keeping his sense of humour.
Brazil said:
“I spoke with Rodgers. He’s not happy. Oh, he’s not happy.”
McCoist added:
“I sent him a message. I don’t know where he is. He is away somewhere.”
Brazil then chimed in:
“He’s in Rio.”
McCoist confirmed it:
“So, he is. He sent me a message back. I was trying to get him on to see what he was thinking. And he said, ‘I am in Brazil. Not the fella, the country.’ He said, ‘I will speak to you when I get back. I am going on Sunday.’
“So, I sent him a message ‘That’s great. Glad things are going well. Stay safe. PS, I hope you get pumped on Sunday.’ He said, so, he seems in good form.”
The exchange comes at the end of a tumultuous 48 hours for Celtic, which saw Rodgers walk away, Dermot Desmond issue a blistering public statement and Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney installed as interim bosses.
Brendan Rodgers will have his say on things and give his version of events, even if we have to wait for his time in Brazil to come to an end. But that does hint that he’s not looking to walk straight into another job.
Celtic still havent confirmed the departure of John Kennedy, which is really, really poor.
Celtic face Falkirk at Celtic Park on Wednesday night before a massive League Cup semi-final against Rangers at Hampden on Sunday, where O’Neill and Maloney are expected to remain in charge.
For now, though, it seems Rodgers is switching off from the chaos, enjoying some sunshine in Brazil while the fallout continues back in Glasgow.
