It’s been another season of Celtic dominance in Scottish football, with Brendan Rodgers on the cusp of guiding the club to a 13th league title in 14 years — and this time, the margin at the top is hitting double figures.
With that, the inevitable chat has started from across the city about how to derail the green-and-white juggernaut.
Ally McCoist, clearly fed up with watching Celtic continue their stranglehold on the Scottish Premiership, has now floated the idea of Rodgers moving back down south to the Premier League.
Speaking on Wednesday, McCoist suggested that Rodgers could be an ideal fit for the Tottenham Hotspur job, amid speculation that former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou could be on his way out of North London this summer.
“I tell you who might suit them – what about Brendan at Tottenham?” McCoist said during a discussion on talkSPORT.
When fellow pundit Alan Brazil questioned whether Spurs would return to a Celtic manager after Postecoglou, McCoist pushed back, pointing to Rodgers’ previous success in England with Liverpool and Leicester City.
It’s a nice thought for Rangers supporters hoping for a smoother ride next season, but Rodgers has already dismissed the idea of leaving. The Celtic boss has been clear throughout this campaign that he intends to see out the remainder of his contract at Parkhead, with eyes firmly fixed on continuing his trophy-laden reign.
McCoist can wish as much as he likes, but Rodgers doesn’t seem to be going anywhere and the dominance that’s driving the former Ibrox boss to fantasy football chat looks set to continue.
