On the last day of January, Celtic Park swung its gates wide open for the launch of the Celtic FC Foundation’s ‘Paradise Pit Stop’ initiative. Fast forward seven months, and the project has dished out over 10,000 hot meals and beverages to more than 5,000 individuals.
Operating every Monday and Thursday, ‘Paradise Pit Stop’ was conceived as a response to the escalating cost-of-living crisis. Staff from both the club and the Foundation are present to serve food, extend a warm greeting to all visitors in a judgment-free zone, and even assist kids with their homework and creative activities like arts and crafts.
The initiative has mobilised team members from various departments, including first-team players, to volunteer their time and assist those facing hardships in the surrounding community.
The Foundation’s team has forged numerous new connections and has extended its support to various other initiatives, from dementia care to fuel banks.
Tony Hamilton, the CEO of Celtic FC Foundation, emphasised, “It’s crucial for us to lend a helping hand to families and individuals navigating tough times. We understand the financial pressures households are under, and we aim to ease some of that stress.” [Celtic FC]
The Foundation is also exploring the possibility of adding two more lunchtime sessions to the ‘Paradise Pit Stop’ schedule.
Celtic’s commitment to community service is deeply rooted in the club’s history and ethos. Founded with a charitable spirit, Celtic has always been more than just a football club; it’s a community pillar that stands by its local people.
The ‘Paradise Pit Stop’ initiative is a shining example of how the club continues to uphold its founding principles of charity and community care. In a world where many face challenges alone, Celtic sends a clear message: no one has to struggle in isolation. The club remains steadfast in its mission to offer a helping hand, ensuring that the spirit of unity and support continues to thrive.
Tony Hamilton encourages anyone who could benefit from the program, whether employed or not, to participate. Those interested can drop by Celtic Park between 5 pm and 7 pm on Mondays and Thursdays. Entry is through the North East entrance. For more details, you can reach out to the Celtic FC Foundation at cfcfoundation@celticfc.co.uk.
