GIAKOUMAKIS played for Celtic on Wednesday night and there were no reports of the striker sustaining an injury.

That’s why it was surprising not to see the big man in the squad for the 2-2 draw against Blackburn on Saturday. The Greek scored a cracking goal for Celtic in the Czech Republic and the Hoops support were looking forward to seeing him in action back at Celtic Park.

Speaking after the game, Ange quelled any fears of an injury and delivered great news into the bargain:

“Gio has taken a couple of personal days because his missus is due to have a baby. But we sent a personal trainer with him so he’s not getting away with it!”

I think we can afford the striker a few days off while he welcomes a new child into the world.

In his absence Maeda was given the nod up top once Kyogo went off at half time. Celtic played well against a Blackburn side who were hatchet men at best. The game fell apart in the last half an hour when so many changes were introduced by the manager.

Ange keen to get minutes in the legs of all his players.

We wish Giakoumakis and his partner all the best.
