Ange Postecoglou was forced to bat away a question about Tom Rogic’s contract situation after the midfielder played a starring role in Celtic’s win over Motherwell at the weekend.

It’s quite a ridiculous question to ask the manager after the victory considering Tom’s deal with Celtic isn’t up until the summer of 2023.

Nonetheless, the manager was asked and he answered it.

“No, it’s the last thing on my mind, mate.

“We want people here who are happy to be here and want to be a part of it.

Tom scored wonder goal to make it two-nil to Celtic

“Unless someone knocks on my door and says they want to go I’ll just let it roll.”

Ange continued, as cited by The Scottish Sun, he said: “Tom’s been great all year.

“We’ve obviously missed him the last couple of games with him being on international duty, so it was important for him today and Tony Ralston as well.

“With Tom, it’s not just his quality, he’s working so hard for us in a defensive sense and pressing the opposition, instigating our defensive work.

“The quality he’s got shines through after that.”

Tom came back from his international break and didn’t skip a beat.

Ange salutes the Celtic fans at Fir Park

His first goal was sensational, and the midfielder was a constant threat going forward. The Australian was very unlucky not to grab his hat-trick on the day.

Why anyone felt compelled to bring up Tom’s contract after the game was someone clearly looking for an angle or a negative.

The manager has been in the eye of the storm since coming into Celtic, building a team that can compete and to be asked about a player’s contract situation three quarters of the way through a season when his deal still has over a year to run is quite something.

The Celtic manager was correct to dismiss the question.
