It’s crazy, but what was a massive sticking point for Celtic fans and a source of great discussion last season has now hit the back burner.

Celtic’s coaching setup.

Last season – Gavin Strachan and John Kennedy came under incredible criticism. Some justified and others encroaching on unjustified personal assaults. Many wanted to see both men leave the club at the end of the season and the new manager bring in his own men.

Had Eddie Howe taken the job – he wanted to bring a whole coaching set up. Kennedy and Strachan would’ve likely been moved on.

When Howe walked away – Celtic went after Ange Postecoglou and the manager came in alone allowing Strachan and Kennedy to stay at the club.

Fans weren’t impressed – Celtic told CeltsAreHere earlier this summer that Ange has a blank canvass and could bring in or let go any coaches as he sees fit.

When Ange came in and took on the pair – some found it hard to believe the Australian had as much autonomy as he needs. There will always be that element who distrust the word of the club.

When Ange was asked back in early August about potential backroom changes or hires the Hoops gaffer admitted it’s something he wants to look at.

“Yeah, absolutely yeah. We’ve got some gaps there and we’ll definitely fill those gaps with the right people – that’s really important.

“I’ve got some ideas on that and Dom’s been really supportive. At the moment, my focus is well and truly on getting the players in.” CelticTV.

From another interview, Ange seemed settled with the coaches he had but did mention again that he wants specific staff members in the door.

“My history is if there’s good people in the building then there’s no reason to change it,” he said. “So far all the staff have been excellent and have embraced where we want to go to.

“I will back my judgment in all these things. I take responsibility at the end of the day. We need to add to our staff for sure. We will be bringing in people at the appropriate time. Not necessarily in the coaching area, but there’s other areas we need to bolster.” Glasgow Times.

The international break has given Ange and Dom the opportunity to take a breath and take stock. We know Celtic are in the market for statisticians and other roles that the manager wants filled.

It looks unlikely there will be much upheaval on the coaching front for now.

  1. Kenedy and the backroom staff should have been sacked with Lennon. An interim appointment could have been made. Why he is still there under a new manager is not only strange but worrying.

  2. The manager seems to know what he is doing, and with the football they’ve been playing (with the exception of the huns game) and with Kennedy and Strachan as his coaches during this time, it would seem to me he is happy with their coaching.

  3. Whats the big deal about the coaches? They coach, they dont make the decisions .

Easy targets for lazy and ignorant who haven’t a clue whether they are good or bad.

If Ange wins the treble will they get credit?

Do they get credit for the Rodgers trophy-leaden era?

Probably not, so how is it that they are responsible for the disasterous Lennon season?
