Ange Postecoglou has shot down suggestions Dermot Desmond is more involved than he usually would be due to the nature of the current rebuild.

The majority shareholder remains quiet and hasn’t said anything since his contrived Q&A on the Celtic website.

Dermot has been hands off over the years with Peter Lawwell pulling the strings but with a new CEO in charge as well as a new manager, the suggestion was Dermot was getting his hands dirty.

Speaking to The Herald this week, the Celtic manager confirmed talks with Celtic’s majority shareholder, but was clear about what was expected of him and shot down down any interference.

“I’ve [had] good chats with him about the key fundamentals,” Postecoglou said.

“He’s employed me to do the job. I don’t think he’s employed me to get him to do the job.

“Dermot, Dom, the whole club has been very supportive from the first day. But I’m the one assigned to do the job and the work.

“I didn’t come here for others to do it and I think that’s their expectations of me.”

Celtic have not gone through a rebuild this size since Martin O’Neill over in the early 00’s.

The club have so much to do, everyone has to play their part. Dominic McKay was brought in to run Celtic and modernise the departments behind the scenes. While he’s doing that – he must also facilitate Ange and help him get the playing staff that the manager would like.

It’s a tough summer for everyone at Celtic – a mess of our own making. The board who overseen such a collapse still sit in their seats after many years and don’t believe they should move on for fresher and less jaded individuals.

Only time will tell if we can turn things around this season, but right now, it’s difficult to see success.

  1. Dermo puts up the capital, pays wages. Ergo he has a big say in everything at CFCPLC. He pecks down from the top. But the only thing he should be doing now. Is making sure everybody under his control does the job they’re paid for. The support may think because they own the balance of power they own him. But it’s the polar opposite. Everyone is his puppet in this theatre of dreams Paradise.
