Ross Doohan has revealed he still has eyes on the Celtic number one spot in the coming years, even though he’s now 23 and has failed to make the breakthrough.

Celtic’s goalkeeping issues have been well documented over the past year. Fans have got some respite with Joe Hart having a good start to his Celtic career and hope the Englishman can prove a massive difference in the title race.

Doohan has gone out on-loan to Tranmere Rovers in the hope of impressing the manager from afar this season.

Doohan linked up with Mick Mellon who brought him into Dundee Utd last season for a loan spell.

the goalkeeper has been in Celtic’s youth system for quite some time. The Colt side has no age restriction on goalkeepers but you have to imagine he will not be satisfied coming in and being the Colt goalkeeper going forward if the club stays in the Lowland league next season.

Ross has confirmed he’s had a chat with Ange Postecoglou and he’s not shutting the door on his Celtic dream just yet.

“It’s all about playing games at this age and stage of my career.” Doohan told SunSport.

“I did pre-season at Celtic and I spoke to the manager there about things in the summer.

“We agreed going out and playing was the most important thing for me and it was just about waiting for the right move to come along.

“I still keep in touch with the goalkeeping coaches Stevie Woods and Colin Meldrum.

“I know they will be keeping an eye on what I am doing and they speak to me during the week.

“They like to know what I am doing at training and they have been watching the games.

“It’s not like it is an out of sight, out of mind situation. They want to know how I’m doing.

“Ultimately I want to be the Celtic No1 one day, that has to be my ambition.

“I want to play for the club, but right now that won’t happen, so it was about getting myself out there and getting more experience. Hopefully I can get that here.

“I was impressed by the new manager at Celtic during pre-season.

“It always takes a manager time to implement his ideas at a new club but I really enjoyed working with him.”

“It is hard going that’s for sure but he wants to play attractive football and people have seen that already.”

“Hopefully the club can have a good season.”

Hart is 34, we are unsure how many years we will be able to get out the former Premier League winner so there’s proper opportunity to impress in the coming seasons.

Celtic have too many goalkeepers at the moment; Hart as number one then you’ve got Bain, Barkas and Hazard.

Right now, Ross must get his head down and show what he can do.
