ERIK SVIATCHENKO was linked with a return to Celtic Park in the summer transfer.

In an interview with Football Scotland to mark six years since he signed for Celtic, Erik revealed he was in talks with Celtic, but Postecoglou opted to sign another central defender instead, Carl Starfelt.

The Danish defender confirmed the reports;

“There was actually a little bit of truth in it.

“We had some initial talks with Celtic but the new manager wanted players that he had to choose.

“As I understood it, I was highly-rated and someone who could have been considered but they took a different centre-back.

“It was nice to be linked and it did blow up on the internet which was fun to be a part of.

“It was just between my agent and the club. It was a hectic speculation time.”

Bringing the defender back would have been a risk, the pressure would pile on Erik and at the age of 30, he was not a long term solution like Carl Starfelt looks to be.

Sciatchenko was a good player for the club, the potential return had many fans, including myself, excited.

However, the player coming back to the club wouldn’t have looked good on our transfer model and would not have been an ‘Ange signing’ hence the reason Celtic turned their attention to Carl Starfelt.

His comments about the manager choosing his own players will certainly please fans, further stating that the Aussie boss is being backed by the club.
