NEW SIGNING Johnny Kenny has not featured for Celtic yet. Initially, the 18-year-old had to isolate because he was deemed as close contact to a COVID case before picking up an injury.

Speaking to Celtic TV, Postecoglou revealed that the striker is closing in on a return to training. Not only that, the Celtic manager has hinted at a first team debut for Kenny.

“And young Johnny Kenny is getting to a space where he can train with us. And it’s going to be important, we’re still in three competitions. We want to do well in all three and we’re going to need a strong squad to get there.”

Interestingly, the striker will train with the first team rather than the B team. Postecoglou also confirms that the striker will get some game time when he is match fit.

His development is critical at such a young age. At Sligo Rovers, Kenny was highly rated, reaching double-digit goals in his first season as a professional.

During a demanding spell with unavailable strikers, many assumed that Kenny would play a role in the squad, but unfortunately, circumstances did not allow this. Including the Irishman, Celtic have five first-team strikers, including Albian Ajeti.

Game time over the other four players in the same position will be hard to come by for the young man, mainly because Ange prefers to play one up top.

If he keeps his head down and trains hard, Postecoglou will not think twice about giving him an opportunity.
