Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has hushed any talk of his current side beating a record set by Brendan Rodgers’ Invincibles in 2016/17.

He knows how fondly remembered Rodgers’ side is at Parkhead with his current crop containing a few of the players who went a whole season unbeaten in all domestic competitions.

The Hoops have of course already been beaten this season on a disappointing afternoon in Paisley but remain on track to equal or beat the 106 points which were achieved six years ago if they can earn maximum points in their remaining 13 matches.

Postecoglou will be treating the remainder of the season as one game at a time and won’t be looking too far ahead as they are also still in the running to achieve a treble this season.

Rather than set targets, he would rather see his side win against whatever is in front of them and see where they are come the end of the season. Sitting nine points clear at the top of the SPFL Premiership, Postecoglou’s side is in a very strong position to go on to win a second league title under his reign and he reckons that anything else is a bonus.

“I don’t really set those kind of targets,” said Postecoglou as quoted by [Football Scotland].

“If you do that, you kind of put a ceiling on what you can do. If I had set the target that we want to beat the team that Brendan had, then what if we’d beat it with two games to spare? Do the players think then, ‘Well we have done it?’

“Let’s just be the best we can be and see where that takes us. If it means we fall short of an Invincible team that Brendan created, then it won’t be for the want of trying.

“We’ve shown that in just over 18 months, four transfer windows, we can be a pretty good side. With more work and more determination to improve, who knows what we can achieve.”

It’s set to be an exciting end of the season for Celtic supporters and it will be all about enjoying the ride. The manager told us to strap in our seatbelts at the start of the season and we are still well and truly on the rollercoaster.
