Ange Postecoglou has been true to his word. The Celtic manager spoke last month about once the transfer window is closed, he would look to fill major positions in the backroom team to help give Celtic an edge.

CeltsAreHere.com can confirm the club have signed former Spurs fitness coach Anton McElhone as their new head of Sports science.

Anton comes in with a decent pedigree and someone who has worked with some top men in our game, such as:

– Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham Hotspur FC
• Harry Redknapp, Tottenham Hotspur FC
• Andre Villas Boas, Tottenham Hotspur FC
• Tim Sherwood, Tottenham Hotspur FC
• Brad Friedel, New England Revolution
• David Hopkin, Greenock Morton FC and Bradford City FC
• Tony Mowbray, Hibernian FC
• John Collins, Hibernian FC
• John McDermott, Tottenham Hotspur FC
• Alex Inglethorpe, Tottenham Hotspur FC
• Chris Ramsey, Tottenham Hotspur FC
• Ricardo Moniz, Tottenham Hotspur FC

This was a vacancy that was desperately needed to be filled.

Previous head of sports sciences Jack Nayler left the club this summer to take up a role with RB Leipzig. Celtic have been working with a lot of backroom team gaps as of late.

The manager wants the structure in place that will not only help in the short term but leave a lasting legacy.

We expect this to be the first backroom appointment of many as the Celtic manager reshuffles things to suit.

There’s no sign of a director of football and that vision might have gone out the window with Dom McKay when he left the club after just 72 days.

  1. I am pleased to see an appointment at least but Ange should be looking to improve his coaching staff. We have a defender who has not improved the defence through three managerial periods. How good is your coaching team??
