Like most of his predecessors, Ange Postecoglou is on a 12 month rolling contract. It’s something the Celtic board has opted to use over the years and has worked well.

Even Brendan Rodgers initially came in on the same deal before he signed a long term contract further down the line. As we know, that did nothing to keep the Irishman at the club longer than he did, but it did make sure of a healthy fee for the club.

For anyone not familiar with a 12 month rolling contract – the deal is structured in a way that every day Ange Postecoglou wakes up as Celtic boss, he has 12 months left on his deal. It’s not something that expires at the end of the season. Unless there are particular clauses on termination, if Celtic were to sack the Celtic boss at any point he would be due 12 months of his deal.

Given what Ange has managed this year so far, there has been a bit of a clamour for the Australian to sign a new long term deal with the club.

Ange was asked about a potential deal and sit down with Dermot Desmond after the majority shareholder took part in an interview. As quoted by the Daily Record, the manager responded:

“The last thing I want to do is talk to chairmen or to Dermot or anyone about my position.

“As managers we just get on with it. Usually when you have to talk to people involved it’s because you’re worried about your position.

“I’m quite comfortable with the way things are going, I’m really happy and enjoying the role.

“I still have a helluva lot to accomplish as we are at the first stage of the rebuild.

“Until they tap me on the shoulder and tell me the road’s going elsewhere then I will keep doing what I’m doing and be happy about it.”

Ange is relaxed about his deal and the Celtic board will be too. It really shouldn’t be the priority.
