Ange Postecoglou refused to be drawn into the speculation surrounding his number two John Kennedy.

Speaking after a defeat to Hibs on Wednesday evening, the Hoops boss would not comment on any specifics but he was clear how vital John is to what he does.

He told Football Scotland: “John plays a vital role. I give him a lot of responsibility. He’s got a lot of experience at this football club, part of a lot of success.

“That isn’t by accident. It’s not surprising people are looking at him. And when the time is right he will make an outstanding manager.”

Rumours Hearts are seriously looking at John to be their next manager has surfaced this week.

Stevie Naismith is in interim charge after Robbie Neilson was relieved of his duties earlier this season.

John has been linked with a number of roles over the years but has continued with his Celtic career every single time.

The former Celtic academy player has taken on many roles at the club, from youth coach to scout. In recent times he’s been a first team coach for Ronny Deila and Brendan before becoming assistant to Neil Lennon and now Ange.

If Ange sees John as vital, it’s going to take a lot to allow him to move on.
