LEIGH GRIFFITHS has signed a new one-year deal with the club on Thursday morning and is now set to get to work under new boss Ange Postecoglou.

There was a lot of doubt over if Ange would hand the striker a new deal after the club chose not to trigger an extension on Leigh’s previous deal.

The news came through this morning and it did shock a lot of people Leigh will be staying around.

The Australian boss has been talking up his high intensity, high pressure tactics and it would be safe to say Leigh doesn’t really fit that description.

However, speaking to the Celtic website, the new manager has revealed Leigh knows exactly what’s expected of him in the coming 12 months.

“I am really pleased to keep Leigh with us for another season at least. I have had very positive conversations with Leigh and he clearly understands my expectations and more importantly the club’s.

“Leigh has already proven himself as one of the top strikers in Scotland and I look forward to working with him so that we can bring success to Celtic Football Club.”

Celtic’s rebuild can’t happen overnight and keeping a hold of some players will be key to facilitating the transition. Leigh has his chance to prove a lot of people wrong, especially his former manager Neil Lennon who has been highly critical of the striker.

Not to mention John Kennedy, who is still at the club and didn’t play Leigh much when he was the interim boss.
