JOSIP JURANOVIC scored his first Celtic goal in Seville when the hoops faced Real Betis in match day one of the Europa League.

The next penalty in the competition was then taken by Callum McGregor but he had his effort saved.

It’s worth noting that the full-back was not on the field when the penalty was taken.

Juranovic stepped up to the spot last weekend to net the second goal of his Celtic career against St Johnstone

Looking assured from the spot it is hard to believe that he has not been a penalty taker in the past – but this is the case.

After taking some penalties in training, he impressed the manager and was informed before the Betis game he would be the club’s penalty taker.

Speaking on Celtic TV, Juranovic was asked if he has been a Penalty taker before;

“No, I shoot two penalty kicks and I scored. Before the match against Betis the coach said to me can you shoot some penalties for the players.

“I scored three they missed one and because of that, I am on the penalties.”

If he can keep hitting them well, Josip should remain out penalty taker.

We’ve yet to see the Croatian score from open play, he does have a spectacular goal or two in him.

It’s good to see Ange has not left these things to chance and has looked at the best players to take set pieces.
