It was yet another sweet day under Ange Postecoglou at Hampden yesterday as his side defeated Rangers 2-1 in the final of the Viaplay Cup.

The first trophy of the season can be important for any manager as the Celtic boss explained in the lead-up to the game as fans started to really believe in his ideas when the club won the cup last season against Hibs in late December [Sky Sports].

When he arrived at the football club during the summer of 2021, things were really low as there were a number of wantaway players in a squad who had finished the season having not won a trophy and lost the league by 25 points.

The relationship between the supporters and the club off the pitch was fractured too as many had been left deeply frustrated at the way the campaign had unfolded.

It was a difficult environment to step into, but he got straight to work and started to build a side that would eventually go on to win the league title during his first campaign.

That took some new incomings but also a fresh start for some within the squad who have delivered three out of the four trophies on offer to them.

A special mention goes to Callum McGregor who was handed the captaincy by Postecoglou. He had big boots to fill when Scott Brown left the club but continually sets high standards in the dressing room for others to follow.

Celtic’s form had to be perfect last season after a poor run of away results in the first few games which has also translated into this campaign as the Hoops have only lost once in their previous 58 matches in the Scottish Premiership.

At the end of the game, Postecoglou expressed real emotion towards the Celtic support as someone who knows exactly what it means to the fans.

Ange Postecoglou continues to deliver for Celtic domestically as he has completely transformed the fortunes of the club both on and off the park.

This could turn out to be a season to remember for the club but in true Postecoglou fashion, his attention will turn to St Mirren first in the next game as he asks the players to go again.
