Patrick Roberts send Sunderland to Wembley on Monday evening with a dramatic 93rd minute goal that sealed the victory against Sheffield Wednesday.

The winger will now have the opportunity to get Sunderland back into the Championship next season.

Currently on loan from Manchester City, Paddy’s City deal runs out at the end of this season and he’s free to talk to any club right now.

After we reported on Patrick’s heroics for Sunderland, many fans got in touch on our social media to say we should be bringing Patrick back to the club. We can confirm there’s little to no chance that’s happening.

It was Kieran Devlin of The Athletic back in nearly April who wrote Patrick’s return to Celtic at the beginning of this season was on the cards until Ange Postecoglou intervened and stopped the deal in its tracks. It’s thought Ange didn’t believe Roberts had the “the single-mindedness” needed to be part of his side.

We did some digging ourselves since then – a source telling CeltsAreHere.com the manager saw no real value in the players return. Ange had a big say in the summer recruitment and quickly brought in Liel Abada and Jota. The manager isn’t just looking for talented players, he’s looking for people who have the best mindset and attitude to help Celtic be a success.

There was a time when Celtic fans would have had Roberts back but given his injury record and the fact the bhoys have players like Jota and Abada on either wing, there’s no room for him, even on a Bosman.

We like to see Roberts kick on and doing well, if he helps Alex Neil and Sunderland back to the Championship, he might just stick around at the Stadium of Light.

  1. Love to see Roberts doing well.

But the time has past for him to come back to Celtic.
Different style. Different requirements in a winger.

But best of luck to him.

(FYI, he’s on a permanent move to Sunderland, as far as I’m aware)
