Ange Postecoglou inherited a mess in the summer. That’s why when Leigh Griffiths landed a new deal, the Australian was happy enough to go along with it and have an extra option in attack at a time when the squad was not in a good place.

Celtic’s decision to hand Leigh a one-year extension quickly backfired and Ange would see no use for the former Scotland international in his squad.

Looking back on the summer, it was the first time we saw the ruthless side of Ange come into play. Someone he didn’t perceive was all in it with the team – Leigh was gone as quickly as he signed his new extension.

The striker pitched up in Dundee, hoping to revive his career but it’s not worked out. The back and forth between Celtic and Dundee over sending him back to Glasgow .

RecordSport have reported Leigh has been released by the club – although we’re still awaiting confirmation of that move by Celtic – it would keep in line wishes.

There’s no way the gaffer would want Leigh hanging about the training ground when he has no desire to play the forward.

I think we’ll see more of this as we go further down the line with Ange. You could argue the departure of Ntcham in the summer was also an example of Ange’s unwillingness to accept distractions.

It’s great to have a manager that’s taking no nonsense.
