Ange Postecoglou has explained why he wanted all his coaches in the picture with him as he picked up manager of the month award for October. Celtic went unbeaten in the league last month with the only blemish a draw with Livingston.

The Australian picked up the award and has used it as an opportunity to get his point across about the staffing situation at the club.

A massive sticking point for Celtic fans was any new manager be allowed to bring in his own staff. Neil Lennon was told he had to take the coaching staff already at the club when he took over from Brendan Rodgers and fans didn’t want to see a repeat.

There was also a stink on the coaches from the absolute horror show of last season – fans wanted a clean break.

Ange Postecoglou has fielded questions about the coaching staff plenty of times. Many fans think he’s been lumbered with the men already at the club. For what it’s worth, sources at Celtic have told CeltsAreHere the manager has had full autonomy when it comes to his coaching team and has chosen to stick with John and Gavin.

The Hoops gaffer was full of praise for his coaches and revealed their passion to commit to his vision has energised him.

If anyone is wondering why Gavin wasn’t in the photo this week, it was because of a family commitment as Ange explains to the Guardian:

“It’s working well [with the backroom staff] and that’s why I wanted the guys in the photo. Unfortunately, Gavin Strachan had a family commitment and couldn’t make it. But that’s the main coaching staff with me in the photo, the ones who work alongside me, and they have been hugely important to me and what we want to build.

“There is the rest of the staff, the sports science team and the analysts and I have enjoyed working with them.

“I know people have been a little bit anxious about my well-being coming in on my own without a crew of people to support me. But I have never felt the need for that and I have enjoyed working with this group of people.

“I love the fact they want to embrace the direction that we want to take the team into. That sort of stuff energises me.”

Ange has got everybody pulling in the one direction. Unlike last season, both John and Gavin are not in the limelight, they’re behind the scenes getting on with the task at hand.

  1. We have a good and decent human being as club manager. This sits well with the founding ethos of the club and his inherent decency rubs off on others.
