Aaron Mooy revealed the mood in the dressing room after Celtic’s 1-1 draw with Shakhtar in Poland, also citing what the manager told the players after the game.
It was a frustrating night for Celtic. The bhoys were by far the better team on the night and more than a few chances to grab the winning goal.
Celtic fans came away from the game frustrated, but with many delighted we looked like we absolutely belonged in the competition. There was no backs against the wall performance, Celtic took the game to Shakhtar and on another day could’ve grabbed all three points.
Mooy spoke to the Scottish Daily Mail print edition after the game on Wednesday and gave some insight into his feelings on the game and the manager’s reaction: “We created lots, and enough chances to win the game, we just lacked a little bit of composure and concentration when we had the chances. That’s all it was. Yes, there was a bit (of frustration). It was a bit similar to Real Madrid in that we had good chances and we didn’t put them away and it was a bit disappointing that we didn’t get a win.
“The manager was quite happy. He said the second half was good and that he was proud of us all for giving everything we had. We were just lacking that little bit of the finishing touch.
“We are playing against the best teams in Europe, so every point is well earned, and I think we maybe could have earned a little bit more. But you take a point and move forward.”
Ange was clearly frustrated after the game, but he was obviously proud of the team for the way they approached the game. The Celtic manager wants his teams to play with no fear, take the game to their opponents and creat chances. They did all those things, just getting the ball in the back of the net for a second time of the night proved elusive.
If we keep playing like we belong in the competition, our first win is just around the corner.
