ANGE POSTECOGLOU responded to a question surrounding the future of his midfielder James McCarthy, with speculation he could be a target for club’s down south.
James has come into Celtic on a four-year deal, but the manager has used him sparingly. The first squad of the season against Aberdeen last weekend didn’t involve the Irish international, fuelling more speculation.
When asked, the Hoops boss told CelticTV:
That answer doesn’t really do anything to quell speculation and really says it all about the importance, or more the lack there of when it comes to James’ standing within the squad.
James McCarthy’s Celtic Future
The midfielder is clearly not fancied by the manager and was brought in to the club by someone other than Ange at a time when Celtic were trying to rebuild.
A move for James not being on Ange’s radar is another red flag. If there was speculation or firm interest from clubs for Kyogo or Giakoumakis, you’ll bet it would be on the Celtic manager’s radar.
McCarthy is a Celtic fan and will believe he can make an impact with this squad. After being linked with Celtic for years, the player has probably come in at the wrong time.
Given the former Hamilton trainee is on a decent wage, getting him a move back down south will be good for him and the club.
