Another Scottish football legend has praised Celtic for their signing of Portuguese winger Jota.

The former Benfica player scored an absolutely cracking goal at the weekend against Alex McLeish’s former side Aberdeen with the former Dons defender stating that he believes Celtic secured an ‘amazing’ deal’.

Celtic signed the 23-year old after an impressive loan spell for a fee to believed at £6.5 million and it looks as though they’ve got themselves an absolute bargain.

This is one of the most significant fees the Scottish Champions have paid for a player since signing Christopher Jullien three years ago from French side Toulouse.

Ange Postecoglou wasn’t too flattering in his post-match comments about the winger but he stepped up when it mattered which McLeish to be one of his qualities.

The former Scotland and Rangers boss admitted that he had his doubts over the winger last season but now firmly believes that he is a top player that can contribute a lot to the Celtic side.

“He was outstanding last year”, he told Football Insider.

“I was a wee bit sceptical at the beginning but the more the season progressed he proved that he had consistency in his game and he was not just a one-off show pony.

“He has turned out to be an exceptional player and I was amazed at the price that Celtic got him for.“

The winger looked more comfortable playing out on the left-wing on Sunday when Ange Postecoglou made the switch between him and Daizen Maeda during the game but he will be delighted that he got off the mark so early and will hope to put in another performance and get on the score sheet this weekend as Celtic travel to Ross County.

McLeish is the second former Ibrox manager to lavish praise on the Celtic winger. Ally McCoist has been waxing lyrical about the Portuguese player earlier this week.
