Cameron Carter-Vickers has praised his new Celtic teammate, Arne Engels, lauding the young Belgian midfielder for his performances and grounded personality.
Since his summer arrival at the Hoops for a club-record £11m on transfer deadline day, Engels has quickly made his mark at Parkhead, impressing both the fans and his teammates.
Reflecting on Engels’ contributions, Carter-Vickers was full of admiration, emphasising the midfielder’s work ethic and box-to-box ability. “I think he’s been really good,” said the defender [The Scotsman].
“His work off the ball and throughout since he’s been here has been really good. He’s definitely got that kind of power and strength in the midfield to get back and also be a kind of box-to-box player. He’s definitely got quality as well.”
At only 21 years old, Engels has adapted swiftly to life in Glasgow, with his dynamism and versatility adding depth to Celtic’s midfield.
Known for his relentless energy and eye for intercepting opposition play, Engels brings a robust presence to Celtic’s middle third, covering the ground with ease and linking up effectively with his teammates.
Carter-Vickers recognises these attributes but believes Engels still has room to grow—a challenge the young Belgian seems eager to embrace.
“He’s young. I think he’ll say that he can definitely improve—and he’ll be wanting to improve at that age,” Carter-Vickers added.
“But you kind of see the quality he has in training. There’s definitely more to come from him.”
Aside from his on-pitch qualities, Engels’ character has left a lasting impression on his new teammates.
Carter-Vickers praised the midfielder’s down-to-earth nature and effortless integration into the squad: “He’s a really nice guy. Really relaxed, chilled guy. There’s no real ego or anything like that. He’s fitted right into the group, and that’s what you’re looking for.”
Celtic fans are equally pleased with Engels’ arrival, seeing the Belgian as a potential mainstay in the heart of their midfield.
His confidence on the ball, combined with a willingness to cover defensively, has already won him a following among the Hoops faithful. With Celtic facing a challenging European test against RB Leipzig at Parkhead tomorrow, Engels will be keen to prove himself once again under the Champions League spotlight.
As he continues to develop at Celtic, Engels will look to fulfil the potential that earned him the move to Glasgow. If his start is any indication, he’s well on his way to becoming a key figure for the Hoops, both in Scotland and on the European stage.
