Engels made his debut for the Belgian national team on Friday night, coming on for the last 16 minutes of their 3-1 UEFA Nations League win over Israel.

The 21-year-old’s senior bow for his country completed a whirlwind week.

Engels signed for Celtic in a record-breaking £11m deal last Friday before making his debut for the club in the Glasgow derby less than 48 hours later.

The midfielder then travelled away to play for his country, but now, is already on his way back to Glasgow.

Indeed, Engels is unavailable for Belgium’s next game after a bizarre suspension carried over from his time with the country’s under-21s.

Despite pulling out of the squad, big-hitter De Bruyne still gave Engels his seal of approval.

The 33-year-old was full of praise for the new Celt and his fellow debutant Julien Duranville after Friday’s game.

“Julien wasn’t afraid to show his talents,” said De Bruyne (RecordSport).

“And Arne (Engels) also made a very good substitution.”

Engels, whose birthday is today, will now travel back to his new home to prepare to face Hearts on Saturday.

The Jambos’ visit to Glasgow is the first of three exciting home games in a row for the Hoops, who will be looking to build on their impressive start to the new season.
