Arne Engels Reveals “Big Goal” Behind West Ham Move

Celtic had brushed aside Dundee United at Tannadice to move into the quarter-final of the Premier Sports Cup on Saturday night.

Auston Trusty, Camilo Duran, Sebastian Tounekti and Benjamin Nygren were all on target for the Hoops before Arne Engels’ move to the Championship was confirmed shortly after full-time.

It’s a record fee for a Championship club to pay for a player, showing how much the Hammers rate the now-former Celtic man.

After suffering relegation last season, the aim for the side will be to get back into the Premier League at the first time of asking, especially with the money they’re going to spend this summer.

And that is the goal of their new signing, Arne Engels. Speaking after penning a five-year deal, the midfielder said:

“I mean, just everything. It’s a really nice project to come into and to go back to the Premier League. That’s the big goal.

“I think that’s everybody’s goal and it’s just up to me to hopefully help the team with it and together with the supporters to get some wins.

“Hopefully, we’ll see that it’s going to be a good year then and I’m looking forward to the next ones.” [West Ham]

It was actually the former Rangers technical director who identified the signing for West Ham. He heads up their transfer department for the London club after he left Glasgow under a cloud.

Engels will hope his signing can inspire the side and help them get back into the Premier League, but he’ll have to sit out the opener as his transfer wasn’t registered with the EFL in time.

It means his debut could come at home next week against Charlton.
