Reports from TeamTalk indicate that Arsenal are hesitant to let former Celtic star Kieran Tierney return to Parkhead during the January transfer window, despite speculation linking the left-back with a move back to Glasgow. Celtic are reportedly keen to bring the 27-year-old back to the club in the summer on a pre-contract agreement.

Both Celtic and Arsenal face challenges at left-back, with limited options in the position for the remainder of the campaign. It is no secret that Celtic have been in the market for a new left back with Argentine Alexandro Bernabei being sold to Brazilian side, Internacional and current left back Alex Valle has been linked with a move to Italy.

For Celtic, the desire to strengthen the position is clear, but Arsenal’s reluctance to part ways with the Scotland international in January could complicate plans.

Tierney, who left Celtic for Arsenal in 2019 for a then-record £25 million fee, has found regular starts hard to come by at the Emirates this season.

A loan move back to Celtic would have been welcomed by fans who want to see the fan favourite return to Parkhead, but it seems the club will have to wait until the summer to see the move materialise.

If a pre-contract agreement is in place, Tierney’s summer return would undoubtedly be a huge boost for Celtic, bringing back a player who knows the club inside out and offers quality and experience at the highest level.
