There’s no time to dwell on Sunday’s defeat to Hearts as Celtic now turn their attention to the Europa League, with Italian giants AS Roma coming to Glasgow on the back of disappointment themselves.
Celtic fans may find it difficult to look at their opponents’ recent form and find any joy given Wilfried Nancy’s first match in charge didn’t go to plan, but it offers some insight into how Roma are faring.
Thursday night’s test is far from an easy one for the Hoops, as well all know, but the slight advantage of it being at home may be a welcome comfort to some.
The match is a sell out as the Celtic support look to back the team once again.
Roma have their injury doubts ahead of Thursday to add to the misery of suffering back-to-back league defeats for the first time this season.
They were beaten 1-0 by reigning champions Napoli last weekend and then by Calgiari on Sunday night (7 December).
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side sit fourth in Serie A having lost five of their 14 games this campaign and are four points off leaders Napoli.
Their Europa League form, however, makes for different reading. They beat FC Midtjylland 2-1 in their latest fixture, ending the Danes’ perfect form in the competition and knocking them off of top spot.
The Italians were in Glasgow just last month as they beat Rangers 2-0 at Ibrox.
According to Transfermarkt, the Italians are likely to be without a striker for this Thursday.
Artem Dovbyk has a hamstring strain and hasn’t featured since 9th November. The Ukranian international started in the win at Ibrox and registered an assist.
Hoops fans will know this news doesn’t change anything going into this week’s massive test, but it’s a game Nancy will see as an opportunity to make a statement.
