Derek McInnes admitted yesterday he was ‘astonished’ by the fact his player had been pulled up for a challenge on Odsonne Edouard.

Scott McKenna made a very reckless challenge on the Frenchman causing him to be substituted with a dead leg.

At the time Bobby Madden did nothing about it but TV pictures clearly show the severity of the challenge.

Even though McInnes had seen the footage he was at a loss as to why McKenna was being retrospectively punished and made it clear Aberdeen appealed the offer of a two-match ban.

Well, it was all in vain because the compliance officer and panel upheld the complaint and the Aberdeen defender will now miss the next two games as a result.

McInnes will be raging about the decision after coming out in defence of his player yesterday – making himself look like more of an eejit in the process.

Not that this is any use to Celtic who had to play without Odsonne Edouard and didn’t get a penalty for the shocking challenge.
