Long-linked with a move for Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley, Spanish giants Atletico Madrid had a bid rejected for the Dane in January.
Not much has been made of their interest since, with Diego Simeone now on the verge of signing a midfielder from the English Premier League.
According to renowned transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Atleti have agreed a fee of around 40 million euros with Chelsea for Connor Gallagher. It is now up to the English international to decide whether he wants the move.
Celtic fans will be pleased with this update. While little has come of the Spaniards’ interest in O’Riley this summer, they certainly won’t be returning to the table to sign him now if they complete a deal for Gallagher.
Regardless, whoever wants to prize the 23-year-old away from Parkhead will have to pay top dollar.
Brendan Rodgers said yesterday that the Premiership champions will stand firm and that any potential O’Riley suitors must consider the standard of the player, not the league he is playing in.
This encouraged supporters, who remain intrigued as to where their star man will end up come the end of summer.
Good news for ourselves even if it’s a strange move by Madrid imo?
Prepared to pay more for Gallagher, than Oreily, and would class Oreily as a better player myself?
