Celtic defender Auston Trusty has given his reaction to reports linking Wilfried Nancy with the vacant manager’s job at Celtic Park.

The French coach, who is currently in charge of Columbus Crew, has emerged as the front-runner to replace Brendan Rodgers, having guided the MLS side to both the MLS Cup and Leagues Cup titles.

Speaking to Golazo America while on international duty with the USA, Trusty admitted the rumours have been a talking point among his teammates in camp.

“A couple of the Crew guys have mentioned it in the USA camp.

“We haven’t talked too much in depth but I know he’s a good coach and has had a lot of success. They were asking if I’d seen it and I was asking what their thoughts are. That sort of stuff has nothing to do with me, with regards to who the gaffer is going to be.

“If Martin stays, that would be awesome, but I have no control over whoever comes in.”

Nancy’s rise in the MLS has caught attention across Europe for his possession-based, attacking football – a style that would fit Celtic’s philosophy.

Meanwhile, Trusty has been in excellent form under interim boss Martin O’Neill, winning back-to-back man of the match awards in recent weeks.

The American has quickly established himself as a key figure in Celtic’s defence, regardless of who ends up taking the reins permanently.

He’s stepped in well while his fellow countryman Cameron Carter-Vickers has been sidelined, and has even gotten himself a call-up to the national side.

It’s a mystery as to why Brendan Rodgers didn’t show more faith in the £6m defender.

But that’s in the past now, and all eyes are on the future and who will be in that Celtic dugout in the next few weeks.
