Auston Trusty has been recalled to the United States Men’s National Team for the first time since November last year, marking a positive step for the Celtic defender after months of uncertainty new head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino has included Trusty in his latest squad for the upcoming international fixtures. The 27-year-old’s return comes as welcome recognition of his form at Celtic, where he has forced his way into Martin O’Neill’s starting line-up and delivered several standout performances this season.

Trusty had previously been left out of Pochettino’s first USMNT selection, having withdrawn from the March camp due to a calf injury. His omission prompted questions about his place in the manager’s plans, particularly given his consistency in Scottish football.

However, a string of strong displays in recent months, including a commanding performance in Celtic’s League Cup semi-final win over Rangers and a man-of-the-match outing earlier in the campaign, appears to have turned the tide.

The defender’s inclusion reflects his growing reputation since making the move to Glasgow from Sheffield United last summer. Comfortable on the ball and powerful in the air, Trusty has developed into one of O’Neill’s most reliable centre-backs, particularly in the absence of Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Carter-Vickers, who remains sidelined with an Achilles tendon injury sustained during Celtic’s Europa League win over Sturm Graz, will miss the international window and is not expected to return to action until early 2026. His absence leaves Trusty as the club’s sole representative in the United States squad this month.

For both player and country, the call-up marks a significant moment. Trusty now has the chance to re-establish himself on the international stage under Pochettino, while Celtic will be encouraged to see one of their defenders rewarded for his club form at a time when their back line continues to be tested by injuries.
