FILIP BENKOVIC has given his biggest hint yet he will not be returning to Celtic this season with his first interview since joining up with Leicester for pre-season.

The Croatian fell in love with Celtic and the fans loved to see the big man on the team sheet.

He struck up a great partnership with the also departed Dedryck Boyata.

It was Brendan Rodgers who brought the player to Celtic on-loan from Leicester last term and now they are both together at the English club.

Rodgers is still sorting out his team for the new season and while decisions on personnel staying it going hasn’t been finalised, it looks as if Benkovic is up for the fight at Leicester.

“I believe in myself and I believe I can be in the Premier League,” he told HeraldSport.

“I’ve made progress in the last year, I had a lot of games at a high level – in Europe as well – but I think I still have a lot to add, to every part of my game.

“It would be great to work with Brendan Rodgers again because we had a very good connection at Celtic. He gave me a chance and I’m very grateful for that. I’m looking forward to next season.”

There was some hope the Croatian would be brought in for another season with Neil Lennon keen on the player and Brendan Rodgers not ruling it out.

It appears as if Filip has his heart set on a Premier League adventure.
