Celtic have told Vasilis Barkas and his agents have been instructed to find the goalkeeper a move away from the club this January.

While they can cultivate interest, Celtic have the final say on what sort of fee needs to be paid etc.

Football Scotland are reporting Sheffield Utd were very keen on taking the Greek goalkeeper down south on loan. While Barkas was up for the move, Sheffield Utd reportedly got cold feet when they heard Celtic’s demands.

The report claims Celtic wanted an option to buy clause of £2.5m, a loan fee and most of the stopper’s £20kpw wages taken care of by the English side.

Vasilis is surplus to requirements at Celtic but the club out down a huge chunk of cash for the goalkeeper last season and want to recoup some of the money.

As the window reaches its conclusion, the bhoys might soften their stance on what constitutes a good deal for Barkas and the club.

If not, Celtic will be forced to continue to pay Vasilis in full while he sits as Celtic’s THIRD goalkeeper.
