The Greek Goalie has been a flop at the Glasgow side, and the £5 million fee the club splashed on the keeper has been wasted. It’s likely Celtic will fail to recoup this fee.
Now, Barkas has the chance to begin his redemption in the Dutch league. Interestingly, despite being Greek, he was born in Zetten in the Netherlands and has a Dutch mother.
The club have been trying to get the goalkeeper off their books for some time now, so the move away from the club doesn’t come as a surprise. There is no stated future fee in the goalie’s contract.
When Ange Postecoglou signed Joe Hart, it sent a clear message that he no longer trusted Barkas, and his time at Celtic was up.
Celtic has been linked to a few keepers to take Barkas’ role, in offering cover to the backup, but with highly rated Tobi Oluwayemi on the books, it’ll be interesting to see if Postecoglou does sign a new keeper this summer.
