Earlier this afternoon we reported Celtic and Athens were close to a deal which would take goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas from Athens to Celtic.

So, what is the current state of play?

The fee is believed to be agreed; €5m initial payment with addons which could see it stretch to €6m.

The contract on the table for Barkas is reportedly a four-year agreement with the Scottish Champions.

Sportime, who have been first to the story through the negotiations now write the player will leave for Scotland IMMEDIATELY and undertake a medical ahead of the move being finalised.

Barkas will be coming in as a direct replacement for Fraser Forster who turned down the chance to return to Celtic earlier in the summer.

It’s clear with the amount of money being spent, Barkas isn’t coming in to play second fiddle to Scott Bain. It will be interesting to see how quick Celtic can now get this over the line. It’s conceivable Barkas could play on Sunday if all goes well.
