Celtic goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas was handed a start for his country this afternoon against Cyprus and didn’t disappoint with the team winning 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon.

The goalkeeper was dropped by Neil Lennon in recent weeks but the international break has provided Vasilis with the opportunity to get back onto the field and rebuild confidence in himself.

After a so-so start at Celtic, the goalkeeper has been benched for Scott Bain but that could all change in the coming weeks. Neil Lennon might just have taken him out of the limelight to help Barkas settle before giving him the gloves again.

Getting game time against Cyprus will be good for the Celtic goalie, with Scott Bain not in action throughout the international week, could it pave the way for Barkas to come back against Hibernian?

The sooner we have a settled goalkeeper, the better. Hopefully after an indifferent start, the Greek international can show just exactly why Celtic spent decent money on him this summer.
