BARRY FERGUSON has told PLZ Soccer he fully expects Celtic star Leigh Griffiths to bounce back from his latest adversity and show the form he did back from January onwards.

Leigh and Eddy struck up a great partnership in a 3-5-2 system which ultimately gave Celtic the edge in the title race. The bhoys only dropped two points in 2020 before lockdown and managed to make a thirteen point gap between themselves in second place.

It has transpired this week Leigh has been sent back to Lennoxtown to follow a fitness regime and will not be allowed to take part in the friendlies in France this month.

The striker must prove himself again and manage to get himself back to a level where Neil Lennon wants him to be. Right now, the player will certainly be in the bad books with the Celtic boss for not doing more during lockdown to stay fitter.

However, Ferguson thinks Leigh will have a big say in the title and potential ten in a row.

“It was a surprise. I thought since the turn of the year when Neil Lennon started using the 3-5-2 more often he was getting back to his old self. Obviously, with the Covid-19 hitting, everyone has been shacked up in their houses.

“Obviously Leigh is not at the level of fitness that Neil Lennon wants and has been told to stay behind. It shows that Lenny isn’t mucking about this season.

“Leigh needs to get fitter, it will be a kick up the backside for him but I still believe he will have a massive part to play next season. When you get him up to scratch, he is a very good player, a very good goal scorer.
