MICHAEL STEWART upset the apple cart this week when he called out Ibrox media spin doctor on BBC Sportsound. The former footballer was clear with his words and said nothing which he should feel the need to apologise for.

Stewart, who has played for both Hearts and Hibs during his career was speaking to Simon Ferry recently about his career and admitted he was approached by Celtic and more specifically John Park when he was set to leave Manchester Utd.

“I wasn’t ready to leave at that point and you are limiting your options. Up the road, with the greatest respect, it wasn’t like I was going to be happy going to play at every club.” Stewart told SunSport.

“John Park had just gone to Celtic, Chris Killen had gone as well in that summer, he said look there could be a chance here as well but they need to move on Gravesen and Jarosik first.

“They need to move a lot of boys on but there might be a chance here.

“Before anything came of that, Hearts had come back and said ‘do you want to come to Hearts?’

“I felt like, you know what, it’s a concrete offer, I’m not moving then and I felt like I had unfinished business.”

Gravesen and Jarosik would’ve been on big wages but both never really got up and running in a Celtic jersey.

Strachan liked bringing in Scottish talent during his time at the club. Scott Brown being the very notable signing but bringing Stephen McManus through from the reserves, signing the likes of Gary Caldwell, Kenny Miller, Paul Hartley, Barry Robson and Steven Pressley to name a few.

It’s entirely possible he thought Stewart could do a job for the club.

Stewart is not a Celtic fan and he’s not a cheerleader for the green half of Glasgow. He gives his opinion at all times and has upset Celtic fans in the past with his views.
