BBC Sportsound presenter Richard Gordon explained that he and his colleagues were warned to stay inside Celtic Park after the game on Thursday night because the AIK fans were making trouble outside the ground.

The Swede’s were shocking inside the ground too with the fans fighting with stewards and police and at one point tried to breakthrough into the Celtic end.

After the game, the fans were held inside the ground for a brief period to allow the Celtic fans to safely filter out which is the norm on a European night. Once they were let out of the ground they apparently stuck around and eventually got escorted from the stadium by a large police presence.

“I’m getting warnings from Allan Preston who’s outside telling us not to leave the stadium,” said Richard Gordon as cited by the Evening Times.

Tom English replied: “Oh, why’s that?”

Gordon explained: “Because there are ultras outside and massive police numbers.”

Celtic outclassed their Swedish counterparts on the pitch to take a 2-0 lead to Stockholm next week. The AIK fans are already in dispute with the Swedish police, they’re likely to behave similarly if not worse at home.

  1. Tom English looking for anti-Celtic headlines again.
He is an offensive person and he certainly would have been sick last night on finding out it was the Swedish ultras causing the trouble. He would be hoping otherwise.
