BBC and Celtic FC Pass pundit, Michael Stewart believes time may be up for the Celtic manager but the board will be even more reluctant to sack him after the stunt pulled by the Green Brigade.

Stewart believes if the board were publicly seen to cave to a statement like that from any fans group, it would set an unwanted precedent and the fact the GB did it has actually harmed the chance of the board making the tough decision.

Speaking on Sportsound, Stewart said:

“See the banner and the statement that was released from the Celtic supporters?

“I don’t know about you but, if the club were of a mind that they were questioning his future, I actually think that prolongs Neil Lennon’s stay.

“As a club, you can’t be seen to react off the back of a blatant statement like that, for fear of, in the future, all you need to do is to exert the pressure and you get what you want.

“I think he will get longer because of that exact statement.”
It’s very hard to see a way back for Neil Lennon after another horrible result. It’s not just the results but the performances which have been very below par and in need of something drastic. The Celtic manager finds himself in a very tough situation but will the board dig in more after the banner?
You would like to say, no, but you just can’t rule it out.
Celtic fell to a 4-1 defeat to Sparta Prague on Thursday night which has only added more fuel to the fire for Neil Lennon’s departure.
