BENFICA chiefs claim they’re not regretting Jota’s permanent transfer to Celtic after the club acted and triggered the option to buy clause in his loan contract.

Jota was fantastic throughout his first season with Celtic; it was clear he was a top player. Somehow, upon his return, he’s managed to perform even better and is well on course to get better numbers than last season. The winger has already managed to bag four goals and four assists in six games, superb numbers.

Yet, despite his amazing form, Benfica don’t regret selling the player for such a small price. [The Sun]

“No. Jota was formed by us and went to Scotland on a loan with an option to buy.

“He had a brilliant season and Celtic activated the option.

“We kept part of the multi-player pass. We will continue to follow the future to reap more dividends.”

Benfica will bag some money, with the Portuguese club thought to have a sell-on clause installed into the agreement worth up to 30%. The player has the potential to break the Scottish transfer fee record, especially if he keeps performing at the highest level.

The magic he can produce in a game could be the difference between Europa League football and Champions League football after Christmas.

  1. Celtic maybe need to get a big guy into the centre of the box around the penalty spot when Jota’s on the wing, someone like O’Riley who can get a head on the ball when the winger opts for a cross
