FILIP BENKOVIC has commented on his immediate Celtic future with the defender has been recovering from injury for quite some time. It was just after the winter break when the Croatian faced a sweat to find out if he would play any further part in the season.

The news was as good as it got with late March pencilled in for his return to training.

Be under no illusion, having the defender back for the run in will be fantastic. While he may be on loan, Celtic must use their best players while they have them and Filip is our best centre back when he’s fit.

Speaking about his injury this week the player said:

“My situation? the injury is almost behind me.” he told the Croatian media as reported by Football Scotland.

“I want to play as many games as possible by the end of the season.”

The defender will leave Celtic in the summer to head back to Leicester where he will meet a familiar coaching staff in Brendan Rodgers, Chris Davies and Kolo Toure.

Rodgers brought Benkovic to Celtic on the final days of the summer transfer window with Leicester buying the defender from Dynamo before loaning him straight out the door.

There’s little chance Celtic will hold onto the player for any longer than this season with Rodgers well aware of the player’s qualities.

While he is here, he could help Celtic to another amazing feat of a triple treble.
