FILIP BENKOVIC has given Celtic fans a potentially massive lift by declaring he would be happy to return to the club this summer if Brendan Rodgers wants him to head back out on-loan again.
The Croatian defender is clearly the bhoys best centre-back at the club but Neil Lennon has been reluctant to play Filip because he is only on loan.
However, the big defender has opened up about a potential return and has confirmed he’s had chats with Neil Lennon as well as Brendan Rodgers.
Ultimately, it will be down to his former Celtic boss where he is playing his football next season. Brendan Rodgers said himself he wouldn’t hesitate to send him back to Celtic if his first team chances are limited at Leicester.
“I read the comments from Brendan Rodgers. At the moment I really do not know what will happen when my loan expires.” he told Record Sport.
“I’ve spoken to the sports director at Leicester and he’s told me everyone at the club will soon sit down and decide what is best for me
“When Brendan Rodgers left Celtic, he sent me a lot of nice words and told me he was very pleased with my performances.
“Whatever he decides, I will go along with.
“I have been really pleased with my season at Celtic. Of course, you can always do better, but I have played a lot of games at a very high level. Everyone at Celtic has told me they are happy with me.
“I have spoken to Neil Lennon . He told me that he would like me to stay at Celtic for another season.”
Celtic could not afford to buy the player outright after Leicester spent over £12million Filip last summer.
If they could land the defender for another season it would be seen as a major coup.
Could we get an indication of where both clubs are if Filip makes an appearance in the Scottish Cup Final?
