Filip Benkovic wasted no time in making himself a first choice defender for Brendan Rodgers this season. He quickly became a fan favourite too. The only downside to the Croatians loan spell at Paradise has been injuries.

In terms of starts, it has been very much a stop/go system for the big defender. Speaking with The Sun, the centre half is hoping he won’t be out for a long time.

He said: “Up until the injury, everything was super. I was so happy. “I have to do all the examinations, then we will know the diagnosis and recovery time.

“I enjoy being at Celtic, the coach trusts me and I have played a lot of big games. “Hopefully I won’t be out for a long time.”

The whole Celtic back line has been cursed this season with injuries. All club doctors and physios are working overtime as the queues for the treatment tables are at breaking point.

Despite all the injuries, Celtic have enjoyed the perfect start to 2019. They have won all their games and still are yet to concede a goal. Celtic will be out to defend their Scottish Cup crown this weekend against the all too familiar St. Johnstone.
