There were a scary few weeks last year when talk of Lecister City appeared about them looking to recall their young Croatian defender, Filip Benkovic.
The big center-back didn’t take long to establish himself in the Celtic back line once he got his chance. He is now one of the first names on the Celtic team sheet. His social network posts prove he’s fell in love with the club, Celtic fans love him and would love if he stayed beyond his loan spell.
Comments today from Leicester City boss, Claude Puel, will assure Celtic fans that the big man is here for the rest of the season unless some catastrophe of injuries takes place. The Foxes boss was speaking to STV earlier and said:
“We have a lot of defenders at the club, Assuming we don’t get any injuries, it’s better Filip maintains his loan at Celtic.”
With the likes of Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire, Wes Morgan, and Caglar Soyuncu currently ahead of Filip in the pecking order, could there be an outside chance Benkovic could extend his loan deal like a certain Paddy Roberts? Or, if Celtic fans really want to dream big, maybe a permanent deal could be on the cards.
Puel’s comments about having a plethora of defenders certainly opens up Celtic to at least asking the question.

You are getting unnecessarily excited. Maguire will probably leave Leicester in a big money deal and Wes Morgan, as well has he has played this season, won’t keep going for ever. Benkovic will be needed by Leicester City.
It would man you opening the cheque book, and we all know how much you despise doing that!, plus you’d want him on the cheap and expect Leicester to accommodate a thumping loss because that’s what you are like. So far, as a loaning club your attitude to LCFC has been very selfish and ungracious and nothing short of appalling, but, bearing in mind the player doesn’t look as good as our other defenders at the club who are keeping regular clean sheets against quality teams maybe he ought to stay there, it looks like he has found his level.
So he’s fell in love with the club! Will he feel the same on a permanent contract and earning a third of what he’s on now???
